TRAVEL IN BOLIVIA
Here you can find information about how to travel in Bolivia:
Rent-a-car - Bus
- Taxi - Plane
One possibility to travel through Bolivia is to rent a car. Not
all of the streets are in good conditions during the whole year
and in all regions and car services are scarce, but gas is relatively
cheap (about 1.65 US$ per gallon). Bear in mind that Bolivia´s
system of road signs is rather poor and traffic behaviors are different.
Car rentals can be found in big cities, such as La Paz, Cochabamba
and Santa Cruz. Rely on reputable agencies only. To rent a car you
need an international driving license, a credit card or cash deposit
and your passport. Prices for renting cars vary considerably. A
car, size of a Toyota Landcruiser, costs about US$ 60 per day (incl.
75 miles) or US$ 580 per week, without driver. This price includes
total insurance with 620 miles free of charge. Moreover, recommended
car rentals have a 24-hour emergency hotline-service and provide
you with road maps. Inquiries are welcome and will be transferred
to car rentals.

Buses are by far the cheapest and most important means of transport
in Bolivia. All cities are connected by public transport, so you
can reach all important tourist destinations without problem. Prices
for overland journeys are extremely convenient - charging you more
or less 1.20 $ per hour of the bus trip. Slightly more expensive
are the so-called Cama or Semi-Cama Busses which are very comfortable
triaxial "sleeping car" busses.

Taxis constitute a very good alternative to be used within the
city and in it's surroundings as they are very inexpensive. However,
as only few taxis are equipped with a taximeter, you should agree
the price with the driver in advance.

National flights are also reasonably cheap; you can book directly
at the local airports or in the airline offices. National Bolivian
Airlines are Lloyd Aereo Boliviano (LAB), one of Bolivia's largest
national airlines, Aerosur National Airlines, AMAZONAS, Aeroeste,
Taxi Aereo Aeronorte and SAVE.
