DESCRIPTION

Torotoro is Bolivia's smallest National Park. The park is located in the northern part of the department Potosi and encompasses the provinces of Ayopaya, Cercado, Quillacollo, Chapare and Tapacarí. Here you can find steep canyons, caves and dinosaurs tracks, fossils and more. The climate is mild with a few rainfall in the highland region of the park.

HIGHLIGHTS AND ACTIVITIES

The main attraction of the park is the more than 2.500 dinosaur tracks that are more than 60 Million years old. Another attraction is the underground waterfalls and lakes. Furthermore you will be able to find some ruines and wall paintings within the park. The park also has a Cementerio de Tortugas, a cemetery for turtles, where you will find more than 500 million old fossils of turtles. The actual town of Torotoro also has a worth seeing museum, the "Casa de Piedra - Pachamama Wasi", a museum out of various stone formation, that you are welcome to visit.

TIPS

Starting point for visiting the park is Cochabamba or the small little town of Torotoro, which lies about 110 km outside of Cochabamba. It is recommended to visit the park in an organized tour with a guide. Only few tourists visit the park. Therefore little infrastructure is given. You will find only few basic accommodations and restaurants. Tourism is however increasing . During the rain season the park is often not accessible. To reach the park in the rain season it is recommended to take an airplane from Cochabamba. For more information see the website of SERNAP, http://www.sernap.gov.bo.
