La Paz offers its visitor cultural really plenty of oppotunities. On this site you will find information about the most important museums in town. Wewill styart our tour in the famous Calle Jaén which is very close to Plaza Murillo.
This small street is very lovely with all its old colonial buildings and you will find four Museums in this street, the Museos Municipales. With just one ticket, which costs just 4 Bolivianos you are allowed to vistit all of these museums.

Monday - Friday from 9.30 - 12.30 und 15.00 - 19.00 Uhr
Saturday - Sunday from 9.00 - 13.00 Uhr

Because ofb rebuilding the museum, which will be finished in march 2006 (status october 2005) it is just possible to visit one exhibition room.
In the ground floor you can view diverse pieces of furniture such as tables, coffers and chairs from the colonial period. Betwenn those samples are holy paintings, motsly from unkonwn artists. All exhibits are presented in a wonderful arch.

| MUSEO ARQUEOLOGICO DE TIWANAKU |
This museum is one of the most important museums in town. Here visiotors find lots of information about the Tiwanaku, Chiripa, Mollo and diverse different cultures from the eastern part of Bolivia. The collection is the oldest in La Paz and shows also some famous exhibition from the Inka-period.
In the ground floor are at first different ceramics, such as vases, different bowls and drinking vessels. Moreover you can view stone workings from different periods, like arrowheads and also mummies.
In the second floor are sculptures and different tools from the Inka period as samples.

Although the entrance in this museum is free at the moment, because of the rebuilding (october 2005), one should visit this museum.
The display area is at the monment very small, but nevertheless you will find beautiful and interesting scenes in miniaturformat, which are can be view in vitrines.
This is an easy method to get to know the traditions of the Inka-Culture.

The Coca museum is just about coca. Here you will find everything about the history, the cultivation and use of coca and cocaine. The museum offers their visitors a guide book in german and other languages, which very useful for visitors who do not speak spanish..
While visiting the museum you will learn a lot about the coca plant. The circuit starts with a poem about the coca plant. You will also find information about coca and mage, the meaning of coca in the mines, the begin of the coca-boom in europe (1863 first Coca-wine in Paris), the prohibition in 1914 and the fight against coca outbuilding around 1950. You will also find information about the consequences of the drug cocaine.
At the cashpoint you can buy coca-pastilles. These pressed coca leaves has to be used like the regular coca leaves (ojos de coca). Just put them into your cheek.

| CENTRO CULTURAL SAN FRANCISCO |
The opening was this year in august 2005 and this museum is a good complement to all other museums in La Paz. The museum is right next door the cathedral San Francisco on the right hand.
The citizens and tourists of La Paz can feel the history, while visiting the cathedral and the museum. The colonial architecture from Spain with its baroque style, the cloister and the monastary garden are very impressive. From the top of the museum one has a fantastic view over La Paz.
The museum is located in the monastary and curch construction and beside the great architecture is much more to explore. In the entrance hall the visitors of the museum will find information about the history of this catholic order. In the rooms you can view holy paintings and some of these paintings are from the beginning of the monastary (17th century).
Through the cloister one will finally reach the very beautiful
garden, with its different flowers and herbs. The silence there is perfectly for meditation or relaxation. This architecture and the interieur of the basilica „San Francisco“ such as the monastary "Santa Maria de Los Angeles“ enables the visitors to get a view in the every day life of the monks and missionarys in the colonial period.

| CASA MUSEO MARINA NUÑEZ DEL PRADO |
The building "Museum Nuñez del Prado" which is property of the state Bolivia was a present from Marina and her 4 brothers. Her idea was to keep this building as remembrance to her parents and her working.
The
museum is since its beginning under controll by the foundation "Nuñez del Prado" and shows the collected works from Marina.
In the museum are over 1000 workings from her, such as sculptures, paintings and blueprints.
This museum has also the largest collection of her workings. Beside Marina workings you will also find workings from her sister Nilda which was a great goldsmith and paintress.
Between all these fantastic workings you can also get a view to the family life
by visiting the "family room" and the .
