BOLIVIA - MUSEUMS IN LA PAZ
La Paz offers its visitor cultural really plenty of oppotunities. On this site you will find information about the most important museums in town. Wewill styart our tour in the famous Calle Jaén which is very close to Plaza Murillo.
This small street is very lovely with all its old colonial buildings and you will find four Museums in this street, the Museos Municipales. With just one ticket, which costs just 4 Bolivianos you are allowed to vistit all of these museums.
Opening hours Museos Municipales:
Monday - Friday from 9.30 - 12.30 und 15.00 - 19.00 Uhr
Saturday - Sunday from 9.00 - 13.00 Uhr

After the entrance you will find an old knights armor and a old coach.
In the first floor the traditional folklore and tradition of La Paz can be seen. Different scenes have been build in miniatur scenes. So you will find a marketscene with all participants, such as shoesine boys and salespersons.
Moreover in this museum you will find changing exhibitions, which are always very interesting.

In this Museum plenty of gold and silver exemplars can be observe. All of this workings were build by the very old culture of the Tiwanakus, which lived a lont time before the Inkas. . Also a lot of ceramics, mortars and pictures of the Tiwanaku culture are on display
.
On the left hand side are very beautiful and perfectly worked gold workings, such as bangles, diadems and more on display. This black room is very dark so that the visitors are fixed to the vitrines wihich all its samples.

This museum is about the lost war against Chile. In this so called "saltpeter-war" (1879-1883) Bolivia lost a huge part of their country, also the very important seaside. In the year 1904 Bolivias asking after a own seaside again are still unsettled, even though have signed a contract.
In the "Sala de Mapas" very old maps, which shows the borderlines at this time and books from this chapter of Bolivias history can be watched. In the "Sala de Uniformes y Fotografias" you will find old coffers, photographys and uniforms.
In the second floor are vitrines with rifles, guns, pistols, swords and mor on display. Also some paintings can be seen.

In this former residential house lived one of the most famous freedom fighters of Bolivia, Don Pedro Domingo Murillo, which was 1810 exceuted by the spaniards at Plaza de las Armas. Today it is a museum, where the vistors will find samples from this period.
In the ground floor you can view the vitrine "los plantas calientes", which contain Wira Wira and Manzanilla. Moreover dolly birds with traditional costumes and diverse ojects are on display.
In the second floor are five rooms where you will find paintings, crowns and different subjects which were necessary daily in these time.
The fourth room is the "Dormitorio", the bedroom which shows the original arrangement from these years, Don Pedro Domingo Murillo lived.
