The surroundings of La Paz offer plenty of possibilities for awesome mountainbike tours. The ride from La Paz to Coroico on the so called "worlds most dangerous road" is definitely a highlight for excursions with a mountainbike.
You will find plenty of tour operators, most of them are located in Calle Sagarnaga, but it is absolutely necessary to be careful which agency you choose for, because not all of them can be recommended. You will also find operators at Prado.

This trip has to be booked at one of the local tour operators. The road is called "worlds most dangerous road" and some of the agencies hand out t-shirts after this adventure. For downhill freaks, this trip is a duty.
But also people who don´t have much experience can book this trip, provided that they keep attention.
Please be careful where you book this tour, because not all of the tour operators can be recommended, because often the equipment isn´t good enough.

Usually you will leave La Paz in the morning in direction Coroico. Starting point will be the pass "La Cumbre" (4.700 meter). The whole trip is 64 km long and most of the time the route goes downhill. The end will be on an altitude of 1.400 meter. There will be just one passage, where the road goes uphill on a length of 6 km on an altitude of 3.900 meter, which is challenging, because of the high altitude. Depending on your constitution it is also possible to stay in the bus again for this part of the tour.
At the starting point the guides will give instructions, about what is allowed and what is totally forbidden. One guide rides always in the front, while the other one is the last person. Both are stay in touch over funk. About every 15 to 20 minutes the whole group will stop, because it is necessary that the group don´t stretches to long.
The first 20 km are along asphalt, so everyone has the possibility to check out the road and his bike and get prepared for the dirt road. In the middle of the tour a break takes place and its time to drink and eat. The ending point will be reached between 1 to 4 o´clock in the afternoon depending how fast the group is. Depending on the agency here you will get your t-shirt and of course a beer. After the bikes are packed on the bus again you will drive uphill to Coroico. Here you can take a shower and enjoy the view over the Yungas.

After all the participants can enjoy a rich buffet. It is a good ending after this eventful and challenging day. Between 3 to 4 o´clock p.m. the bus leaves to La Paz. Now you will have time to have a look to the road and the environment. Between 8 to 9 o´clock p.m. you will be back in 20-21La Paz.
Some agencies offer also a CD-ROM with photos and videos from the tour.

Who like to do a rafting tour, one will find plenty of possibilities in Bolivia.
In the eastern part of the Andes are several rivers which are best for rafting or kayaking. You can choose between easy tours up to tours of grade V (white water).

Since the last few years paragliding Bolivia is increasing and also more and more pilots from abroad come to Bolivia, to explore the possibilities in this lovely country.
Since the seventies and the eighties it starts with hang-gliding on lake Titicaca and near Cochabamba. Since this time more and more areas have been developed, but this process is still going on.
The most popular areas in Bolivia are near Cochabamba (Tunari national park) and Capinota. Here is high thermic activity and the altitude difference is more than 1.000 meter.
